Return to the Oracle
I'm bored, with a thing or two I could say but would rather not, so I'm going to revisit an old meme and - since the results were randomly generated - do it again to see if the advice has changed.
As before, this is a random mix from all the music stored on my computer, except a couple of albums that I had trouble ripping and which haven't made it into the general folders yet. Which thankfully keeps Dido's 'Life for Rent' to one side...
This time I resolve to ignore instrumentals and accept only the first Beatles song. And if things start getting crazy, I may impose further restrictions (thereby ruining the impartiality even further).
1. What do you think of me, Random Music Player? The Connells - '74-'75
A fairly bland song that I lifted from a compilation; not entirely sure why. WinAmp considers me to have been kind of important in various ways, but definitely thinks of me as an ex- something.
2. Will I have a happy life? The Beatles - Martha, My Dear
Maybe, if I pay more attention to what's going on. Now taking the Beatles out of the selection; they didn't say anything useful last time, and I don't see them starting now.
3. What do my friends really think of me? Nine Inch Nails - Starf***ers Inc. (Live)
It's trying to convince me they think I'm just a hanger-on. It's not going to manage.
4. What does my S.O. think of me? Red Hot Chilli Peppers - One Big Mob
I've no idea what to take from that.
5. Do people secretly lust after me? Bon Jovi - Homebound Train
Maybe.
6. How can I make myself happy? Incubus - Blood on the Ground
Stop talking to someone. Not entirely clear who, but WinAmp thinks there's someone I shouldn't talk to.
7. What should I do with my life? Sean Connery - In My Life
I should do something with it. Something worth going on about when I'm old. And I should add George Martin's crazy retirement album of 'celebrities cover the Beatles' to the list of banned songs.
8. Why must life be so full of pain? Radiohead - Bulletproof ... I wish I was
Almost tempted to leave in John Williams - Hail to the Winner, Anakin Skywalker just because it would be so easy to blame the pain of life on the Dark Side of the Force, but I did commit to skipping instrumentals.
Moving on: there's something I haven't heard in a while. And unfortunately, being Radiohead, it's more inclined to dwell on the pain than try and push the envelope with any attempt to explain it. That is actually a fairly common theme in my music collection.
9. How can I maximize my pleasure during sex? Nine Inch Nails - Physical
OK...
10. Can you give me some advice? Nine Inch Nails - The Day the Whole World Went Away
The advice is not to listen to the advice. It's in a NIN rut now; it's great.
11. What do you think happiness is? Nine Inch Nails - Something I Can Never Have
Oh, shit.
12. Do you have any advice to give over the next few hours/days? Evanescence - Bring Me to Life (Bliss Mix)
Once again, WinAmp can be relied on to bring me the version without the little Nu Metal man. It may have advice: it wants to be brought to life. I will make sure to listen to it over the next few hours/days.
With a pinch of salt.
And fingers crossed...
13. Will I die happy? Placebo - I Know
Probably not. Again.
It's only a game.
