Lessons of NaNo
2009-12-07
Being some things that NaNoWriMo taught me this year.
- I can still do it: I can write 50,000 words of fiction in a month.
- It doesn't get easier. (Although this is only the second time I've 'won' and my third attempt)
- The way to make it easier would be to further reign in my inner editor. I don't want to.
- The world is, indeed, small: one of the guys at the Cambridge Thank God It's Over party was someone I knew from before I moved. Both of us did it on our own two years ago, without the community of the Cambridge folks (or each other, for that matter).
- I've actually got quite a lot of time to dedicate to interesting projects, if only I can muster that dedication. Even for me, it's actually quite easy to abstain from computer games when there's something else of interest to do.
- The Cambridge NaNo people are great. And crazy. I must keep in touch with them.
