With 50,146 'words' (according to the official counter, even though it makes the same mistakes as my own counter) I've completed the main challenge of NaNoWriMo: writing 50,000 words within the month of November. I've not completed the additional challenge of finishing my story in November (and yes, I realise it's not over, but I don't intend to write much in the next 23 and a half hours), but that's largely because the story had more content than I feared it might, so I don't mind that.

I will finish the Third Wheel. I can't guarantee a strong second draft (and in any case, it won't be until after I've done something completely different for a few months) but I will definitely tell the rest of the story I've started. However, I've been spending crazy amounts of time on the Third Wheel lately, writing it, thinking about writing it and stressing about not being able to write it, so I'll be at a more leisurely pace for a while now.

As for the future, one of the things I intend to do is to keep writing in my nice little CMS (not to mention tuning it and adding functionality). I have a long-standing project (web-published a little like Third Wheel, only just for the fun of it) that I am likely to bring here, and for as long as someone reads (and perhaps after) there's a chance I'll keep writing. Maybe serial prose on the web doesn't work - I haven't noticed it, not like web comics seem to have taken off - but since I like this kind of writing so much I figure there's no harm in having a go.

If you're enjoying the Third Wheel, go and check out what the people behind NaNoWriMo actually do as part of the event, the Young Writers' Program and so on, and consider donating. They have set donation sizes to 'buy' and the smallest is $10, but since most of my readers earn the strong GBP that's not so much money and they'll happily tell you what it's worth to them. Granted, much of their help isn't around here, but in the same way as animal charities appeal to my mother, a literacy (and especially writing) charity appeals to me.
Don't feel pressure - I wouldn't necessarily donate to something just because you asked - but consider it a moment.

So, the Third Wheel will finish, I think the Story of Wynn will be along soon, but for the moment (tonight, perhaps tomorrow and the weekend) I'm going to go and get some sleep.
Then get my priest to level 70 :-p

Update: Word count is now solidly over 50,000 words. Priest is not yet 70.
