April is another writing challenge (it's scripts this time: Script Frenzy) so I expect to be scarce again. The time until April is likely taken up by finding out how the hell I'm supposed to write a script, being sociable with other frenzied people and I may have accidentally bought a PS3 as well...
See you on the other side.

My server has been flaky for the last week, with very long response times and frequent timeouts. I've been looking into it when I can and I think I've now found the root of the problem; things are looking better at the moment but it remains to be seen whether what I've done is a permanent solution.
After one of the previous posts, Rik asked what I thought was in store for STO. I'll answer that, but I've heard some good rumours and announcements about what the developers have planned for it, and I should really go and check which were which before I start speculating.
Instead, for the moment, let me make another list of random thoughts, this time what I'd do differently.

STO currently not playable, but I did get an amusingly buggy entry into one map. It's common enough that when the game is loading things slowly (and possibly in the wrong order) that you'll be rendered before the map is, giving the impression of falling through space.
This time, entering a ship-based sector map I actually was falling from space, and when I hit the altitude I was supposed to have I got some screen shake and even a big dust cloud. Someone is either really good at the funny bugs, or has been sneaking some of their humour past the rest of the team...

SWGEmu got some press recently, essentially because SOE still hasn't crushed it. (I can't find the article, but it was pretty old news, given that SOE not having crushed SWGEmu has been the [somewhat un-]natural state of affairs since SWGEmu started.)
Besides interesting thoughts about the legal status of private servers and emulators, it got me thinking about how Star Wars Galaxies had been.

Saw something odd today, a van branded for a company called 'Black Hole Storage'.
If I wanted to name a storage firm, I wouldn't take inspiration from something that takes your stuff and never lets you have it back.
