As interesting as they are, I don't know much about languages beyond my native one (Don't ask: I'll take offence :P). It strikes me that English is definitely missing a couple of things that would be really useful:
  • A second person plural pronoun distinct from the singular, that is, a word for 'you people' to distinguish from 'you person'. French has it, if I recall correctly, pretty sure Latin does (although it doesn't use personal pronouns much), and I suspect most romantic languages do.
  • A gender-neutral third person pronoun for use when the gender of the third party is unknown or unspecified. It's fairly easy to refer to an unknown (or hypothetical) person as 'they', but I gather that strictly one should use 'he or she' each time, which is just daft.
Anyone got any comments from any other languages they know?

A couple of books I've ordered are on '4-6 weeks' availability. They have been since I ordered them on the 25th of June. One book out of that order made it to me in early September; the other two now have projected dates of between mid-October and late November.
I'm leaving the order intact, because I'm in no hurry, but I've had this problem before: they just don't know when to give up and tell you that actually they can't get hold of it.

WoW
I found last night that with my paladin I can comfortably solo elite mobs of my level. Nearly survived two (a bad pull). My priest traditionally can't beat an elite even with 5 levels in my favour.
But then my priest couldn't DPS her way out of a wet paper bag. (And there's a 40 level difference, so it's not really a fair comparison anyway).

This has been a post in my new WoW category. If it made no sense to you, let me assure you that you aren't alone.

A catalogue for corporate Christmas cards arrived this morning. Now the Accounts Manager is singing carols. It's going to be a long season.

This is the longest meme ever, but I like memes and I have no qualms about filling a post with a really big and pointless one (especially when I have nothing else to say). Blame Annie (and go to read hers). I'm filling it out as I get the chance, so the really time-dependent ones weren't all in the same slice of time, necessarily.

QE
I've been away for a while. Not actually away, but busy; a combination of getting a life and wasting one involving various distractions and diversions plus a lot more driving than usual. Normally this would be the point at which I pop up and apologise for being so lax, but although I've been tempted, I haven't brought myself to do so because, well, if I were really that sorry I'd do something about it rather than just coming back to apologise every few weeks, right?

Although I've been tempted to give up on this place and shut it down, the fact that I still have at least one reader (many thanks to Matt for spotting the meme post, which I posted to the future back in March then forgot) suggests that it's a more enduring thing than I thought, and that it deserves another shot.
However, I'm not sure I have much to say these days without it devolving into a niche special interest kind of a place where I rabbit on about World of Warcraft and the joys of aggro control within a crap PuG. If any of my reader(s) have any ideas of what they'd like to see more of, they're welcome to say so. I will listen, although I may pretend I didn't hear.

So, well, sorry. It's heart-felt, but it may not be worth much in the long run. We'll see.

So it's actually early on the morning of the 16th of March, and thanks to the magic of posting to the future, it suddenly appears today. Or at least that's the plan.

Six months ago there was a music meme going around, with entries from the likes of Annie, Gordon, Matt and me. In the comments to Annie's offering, Matt suggested that he come back in 6 months to retry the meme, and make everyone else do so.

Let's see what happens next.
