Got a little way into NaNoWriMo (further than the word count suggests, but not much) a few days ago, looked at what else was going on this month, and decided that it simply wasn't going to work.
While I hate to admit defeat, I'm going to feel better about the rest of the month if I do so now, so this is to announce that I'm ditching my NaNoWriMo project in favour of keeping up with my other commitments, especially a pair of forum-based RPGs and the goings on of my SWG guild and my WoW guild.
My apologies to those who were looking forward to it being finished. Go and read Dan's instead, it's great (although I'm several days behind reading it, due to being on holiday this week). I was pretty sure of myself at the start of this, but while I've managed this kind of things in the past I just wasn't with the story this time, and as always I'm far too lazy to actually force myself to put that much effort into something that isn't giving easy returns.
Good luck to anyone else who is working on it, and maybe I'll get organised and plan something more coherent for next year. But I kind of doubt it.

Anyone got one they want to recommend?
Just been on the phone to Tiscali's broadband customer support, a foreign gentleman who was a little hard to understand when I was going through the simple stuff (my name, my address), and with whom there was almost total mutual incomprehensibility once we were discussing things that actually matter. I tried to explain that I understood contention and didn't want the speech about peak times, but he gave it anyway, although frankly the only reason I had any idea what he was trying to say was because I already knew what it was meant to be.

My computer now doesn't respond at all, and while my laptop just about works, I currently can't get internet access with it.
So I'm not updating the NaNoWriMo word count, because I can't remember how many words there were. Not many, relatively speaking.

Dan is serialising his effort for NaNoWriMo. It's great, you should read it.
I'm pottering away, but then I knew I wouldn't have much time this week and that I would have to catch up later on (especially since I have the week after next off and nothing planned but to laze about doing things like that). Resurrecting my laptop will help; now all I need to do is get an aerial so that the TV will show something that deserves less than my full attention.
